21 I love a sunburnt country

I love a sunburnt country | A land of sweeping plains
Of ragged mountain ranges | Of droughts and flooding rains
I love her far horizons | I love her jewel sea
Her beauty and her terror | The wide brown land for me!
(Excerpt from 'My Country' by Dorothea McKellar)

I have to admit I may have cried a tear (or a few) as the plane climbed to cruising height yesterday (or the day before). Bye bye beach, sunshine, good coffee, wonderful friends and most importantly - family. It has been an amazing couple of months in Australia. I feel so incredibly fortunate that I was able to be around to support someone I love through cancer treatment (which is going well), spend time with both mine and lovely husband C's family and catch up with friends on both sides of the country. All good things must come to an end though, however, before they do, I flicked through all my photos one last time.

I love the golden light in Australia - it's one of the things I miss most when I'm away, so perhaps that's why I tried to photograph it so many times. It almost looks like you could capture some sunshine in a little bottle (which would come in handy given I have the last few weeks of the NYC winter to get through now!)

From New York, with love xox

Hi hun, I hope you had a safe trip back...I don't think I'd be able to give up this beautiful place pictured, with such tranquil scenery and peaceful countrysides. On the Up Side, at least you get back to living in one of the world most exciting cities! Most of us will never get to experience that, you are truly blessed to have the best of both worlds

It must've been tough to leave all this beauty behind. Couldn't you have smuggled back some of that gorgeous weather ;p
Welcome back to the city! You live within walking distance to Reiss? That's dangerous! Now that I think about it, I'm not that far either.

These photos are beautiful! And I totally feel for you. I'm really looking forward to whenever I get to visit Canada (home), but I am NOT looking forward to leaving it again. xx

Your pictures honestly do Australia such justice! Having lived here but travelled around to UK and asian countries I have just had the perfect 'uh huh' moment by your comment. We really DO have a golden light :) There is something so beautiful about flying back in to Australia after time offshore and the feeling of being 'home' - so I completley understand the tears about leaving after some quality time back 'home'. Just remember excitement and new adventures await you in big ole' NYC .. hope the memories from the trip get you through until your next visit xxx

I love all of these pictures. It is so stunning. I would mind spending my days wandering around where these photos were taken.

Boy, do I know how you feel. The hardest thing about living in the UK is the distance from my family and friends in NZ. I miss the sunshine too (never thought I'd say this seeing that I prefer cloudy days).
