23 Breakneck Ridge

"Breakneck Ridge is a mountain along the Hudson River between Beacon and Cold Spring, New York"... A mountain. I so did not read that fineprint before going hiking this weekend. Me. Going up a mountain. As you do. You know, just a typical Saturday morning in upstate New York.

The climb was worth it - even if it was uphill for an hour straight (!) - the view was amazing. It felt like I was sitting on top of the world, surrounded by hills covered in green, with the river stretching on as far as the eye could see and the road a silky grey ribbon winding along its shore.

After the climb we hiked through shady forests, alongside little streams and along the top of rocky plateaus for another few hours. We found a pebbly little beach at the end and snoozed in the shade to the sound of water lapping at the shore. Lying down was absolutely blissful!

From New York, with love xox

I have never been to Breakneck Ridge but I remember the Hudson looking like this. I compare every river to the good old Swan and the Hudson is very different!
I remember being amazed at how much bush there was once we left Manhattan Island. It was 2001 but that's how I remember it!
Looks like you had a great outdoorsy day. x

Thanks to you and your fearless climb up the mountain, we get to rhapsodize over the picturesque views. How is possible that that shade of green is not painted! Its surreal!

I'm just amazed that there are mountainous areas and parks like this in New York. In my mind, NY means NYC, a concrete jungle. The things I've learned from your blog!

I don't think there's anything quite like escaping the 'real world' for a day and going off to get back to nature. Just having you, the fresh air and adventures ahead of you. I still get shocked seeing how much differences are in NY. One minute theres beautiful pics of you on the streets of NY and the next your climbing mountains and in amongst hundreds of trees. It really is like reading a fairytale from a book - hope you enjoyed the 'break' xx

So beautiful. Did you pick the fruit you're holding along the way? We did a climb in Fiji, and all the way through I was constantly eating fruit we picked along the way. The views are just stunning!
