As much as photographing it in black and white seemed essential to convey the graciousness of the homes in the Garden District, NOLA is a city of vibrant colour. The French Quarter is redolent with history and brimming with life. The area is home to some beautiful architecture, designed and built in days long-gone; indulgent food that is big on taste (and bigger on calories) and inspiring art you can wander around looking at for hours.
As pretty as it is, the area does have a seedy underbelly, so be careful if you're walking there late at night especially around Bourbon St. The revellers are so busy revelling that you don't want to get in their way (unless you're planning on joining them).

These are lovely! I can hear that fountain bubbling as I look at it. It begs for an afternoon spent sipping tea sitting next to it. Mr. A & I have been wanting to head to Nola to see some friends. Some of these photos evoke memories I have of Savannah, have you been? I think you'd love it! We try to go every month.
P.S.- Thank you for the suggestions on my birthday list, there are most appreciated! (I would recommend The Great Gatsby, it's beautifully written. I'm a sucker for Fitzgerald.)

Yay, more NOLA! I took a photo of that animal art antiques sign too! I adored the architecture and the pot plants all over the verandahs. Lovely. We were warned by some Americans we met there that we should leave Bourbon St by midnight, as it gets uglier after that. We did each night and were shocked when some fellow conference delegates were the victim of the seedy side. But still we had such a wonderful time in this city and spent one afternoon in the garden district sitting on a bench speaking to locals.

I loved going over and over these pictures - there was something about them that I felt I could almost feel the sunshine and hear and taste the sounds and sights. I have always said I'd get to New Orleans ...for the mardi gras - but you have officially put it on the map for reasons other than that now :) P.s I couldn't love your outfit in the last picture anymore. Be still my beating heart and the maxi skirt you are rocking beautifully. xx
p.s YAY for a return home for a visit!!!! Make sure you drink as much coffee in that time as possible. That is one thing I know i'll miss whilst away from Perth for 4 1/2 months...the coffee!

It's hard to believe that there's a seedy side to such a beautiful area. The architecture and from your description, the culture, is so different from what I see in Europe.

Hi darling, thanks for your kind comments. I made to the Alhambra, I posted the pictures a few weeks back, isn't it amazing? I didnt get a chance to go to Barcelona, but I am sure I missed out. How was it? I am always inspired and awe-struck by your beautiful photography. I find it so quaint and a little mystifying that this is in the US, because the architecture tells a different European tinged story.

I've yet to visit NOLA but I really enjoyed seeing it through your eyes. It looks amazing in color and I'm glad they've been able to rebuild and come back to such vibrance there after all these years.
